The Cleveland School District Board of Trustees opened Friday with a concern about the meeting time.
Reverend Ed Duvall said, "I've noticed the board meeting time has changed. It's normally at 6 p.m. in the evening time but lately we've been having it at noontime, which doesn’t afford our parents and grandparents the opportunity to participate."
Trustee George Evans said, "Normally we try to set it where everyone can be here. I'm sure we'll go back to the regular time in the summer time."
"We'd appreciate that because parents would like to participate in our community and it does us an injustice when we have it at noon time during a regular work day," said Duvall.
During reports, business manager Cindy Holtz said, "The 2017 financial audit is finished and signed off on. I've also asked for principal requests for the upcoming budget year."
Holtz said they are staying ahead of what needs maintenance.
In preparation for graduation ceremonies, Thigpen said she was happy to report they reached an agreement with Delta State University to use their own chairs for the ceremony.
"Can we track our cost around this thing so we know in the future," asked Trustee Todd Fuller.
The board discussed the upcoming accreditation visit from March 25 to March 28.
"They'll visit, interview board members, spend the day in the schools and wrap up on the 28th," said Thigpen.
Renovations were also discussed as the district continues to make improvements after shifting students into new buildings during the consolidation.
"Are we using our resources to stay on top of this and make sure it's done right? Maybe bring the architect into our next board meeting," said Trustee Richard Boggs.
The board agreed the architect should visit the next board meeting to discuss these renovations.
The Bolivar Commercial will have more as the story develops.
