Be Encouraged: We're all in the Press!

One of the toughest things to do is to keep fighting when the problems of life are knocking you head on.

I have experienced my share of troubles in life. There was a time when I felt I was inadequate and that the facts of my life meant I needed to give up.

I struggled with a lot of inner bouts that involved insecurity, loneliness, fear and harsh self-judgment. When you struggle with who you are and there’s no one there to tell you what you need to hear you can drift like a ship without a sail.

In the end, no matter how hard you may have it know that you are not alone because all of us are in what I call, “The Press.”

I have friends who think I have it all together, but I don’t. Every single day for a believer is pressure and often we are smack-dab in the middle of it.

Paul said in Philippians 3:13-14 that, "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

Paul’s writing of "I'm reaching" and "I press" are words that illustrate to me that many of us are saddled with hardships and working hard to become better. "I reach" and "I press" suggests that we have not attained it yet, but we must continue to press our way to a place of peace.

If two people jump off of a sinking ship and start swimming for the safety of the shore but one drowns 50-yards from the shore and the other drowns 500 yards away from the shore.  No matter the distance between them, both fell short. Whether you die 50-yards away in shallow water or 500-yards away in deep water you still fell short.

This analogy explains why Jesus died. God understands some of us are better by nature than others are by practice so many will be only 50-yards away from the shore and almost holy, but none of us are going to make it to the shore, so for the gulf between where you fell off and I fell off, Jesus died to bridge the gap. Without the blood of Jesus none of us will make it because He's the only one that can get us to the shore.

All in all, no matter how strong your struggle may be, no matter how far away from salvation you may think you are; always continue to press your way to the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Keep the faith and stay encouraged. M.J.T.P. Love
