Lady Wildcats sweep Lady Indians

Skelton hustleMegan Skelton hustles to beat out a throw to third against Yazoo City Tuesday at Cleveland High School in fast pitch softball action. Skelton was called safe at third and eventually scored in the 15-0 win for CHS. Cleveland won the second game 16-3.

The Cleveland High Lady Wildcats swept the Yazoo City Lady Indians Tuesday in a Region 3-4A fast pitch softball doubleheader in Cleveland.

The Lady Wildcats used some dynamic pitching from Briana Garner in the first game to earn a 15-0 win. Garner pitched a three inning complete game. She faced nine batters and struck out seven of them with out yielding a hit in the victory.

At the plate the Lady Wildcats received two hits and two RBIs from Anna Pierce Hackney, followed by McKarlee Ingram, Megan Skelton, Ferris Love Capocaccia, Kellie Cummins and Molly Upchurch with a hit each.

In the second game, Upchurch picked up the win in the team's 16-3 victory. She pitched a four inning complete game. She struck out eight of the 17 batters she faced. Upchurch gave up two hits in the win.

At the plate, Kashaya Funches drilled two hits including a triple to lead the Lady Wildcats, followed by Upchurch, Mary Margaret Weeks, Cummins, Capocaccia, Maci Sullivan, Paisley Burny and Madison Horton with a hit each.

Cleveland improved to 2-1 with a 2-0 mark in the region.

The Lady Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday in the Morris Hunter Invitational at Southaven.
