Belvedresi was able to stop him from scoring on the play but St. Joe won the contest 49-13. Belvedresi had an interception and two pass deflections.

Ray Brooks 22, Shaw 0

The Ray Brooks High School Tigers blanked the Shaw High School Hawks to open Region 2-1A play in Benoit Friday night.

Ray Brooks improved to 1-1-1 with a 1-0 mark in the region, while Shaw fell to 1-2 with an 0-1 mark in the region. 

Ray Brooks will be back in action on Friday when the Tigers host McAdams, while the Hawks will return to the gridiron on Saturday to host John F. Kennedy at 2 p.m.

NSA 44, Marvell 28

The North Sunflower Academy Rebels improved to 3-0 with a win over the Marvell Academy Eagles Friday night in Marvell, Ark. 

The game was also the first District 1 8-man game of the season for NSA. The Eagles fell to 0-3 with an 0-2 mark in the district.

NSA will be off this week and will return to the football field on Sept 22 when the Rebels hit the road to Calhoun City to play Calhoun Academy.

St. Joe 49, Bayou 13

The St. Joe Fighting Irish manhandled the Bayou Academy Colts Friday night in Cleveland. 

Bayou fell to 2-2, while St. Joe improved to 3-1.

The Colts finished up with only 100 yards of total offense. Tyler Thweatt completed 4-of-8 passes for 47 yards with an interception and Cross Crowe completed his only pass of the game for 28 yards and marched on a four-yard touchdown run to lead the Colts' offense. Riley Smith was Bayou's leading rusher with 19 yards on nine carries, and Stanley Buford was Bayou's leading receiver with three catches for 36 yards. Collins Tabb caught a 28-yard pass to aid the Colts. 

On defense for Bayou, Bryson Reed recorded six total tackles, and Max Belvedresi intercepted a pass and returned it 43 yards for a touchdown and finished up with two pass break-ups to lead Bayou. 

Bayou will hit the road on Friday to play Lee Academy in Clarksdale.

Leland 27, JFK 6

The John F. Kennedy Hornets dropped a non-region game on the road to the Leland High School Cubs at Leland Friday night. 

JFK fell to 1-3, while Leland improved to 4-0.

The Hornets will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Shaw to play Shaw High School in a 2 p.m. contest.

Calhoun City 54, West Bolivar 12

The West Bolivar High School Eagles had a rough night against the Calhoun City High School Wildcats Friday night in Calhoun City.

West Bolivar fell to 1-2-1, while Calhoun City improved to 3-1.

West Bolivar will host Leland Friday night in Rosedale.

O'Bannon 24, Ruleville 6

The Ruleville Central Tigers suffered a tough loss to the O'Bannon Greenwaves Friday night in Ruleville. 

Ruleville fell to 1-3, while O'Bannon improved to 3-0-1. 

Joseph Perez had a nice game for Ruleville at quarterback as he completed 8-of-10 passes for 100 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 58 yards on nine carries. 

Jabari Reed led the Tigers' defense with 13 tackles, followed by Jeremiah Surney with 11 tackles, Samuel Clark with seven tackles and a sack and Quinn Perkins and Charles Cox with a punt block each. 

Ruleville will hit the road to Itta Bena to play Leflore County Friday at 7 p.m.
