SHAW — After two grueling nights, the table has now been set to determine the best teams in the Bolivar County Basketball Tournament.
The Broad Street Lady Jaguars (8-1) will play the Cleveland Central Lady Wolves (8-2) in the girls championship game, while the John F. Kennedy Hornets (6-10) will play the Cleveland Central Wolves (9-2) in the boys championship game here Saturday. The girls championship game will start 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
In the girls bracket Thursday night, Cleveland Central defeated West Bolivar Lady Eagles 36-29, while Broad Street defeated Shaw Lady Hawks 53-44.
Antanisha Wade led CCHS with 14 points, followed by Mariah Howard with seven points. Shizeria Edwards led the Lady Eagles with 11 points.
Jamiya McRoy led the Lady Jaguars with 15 points, followed by Destiny Hall with 14 points. Tonaria Smith led the Lady Hawks with 16 points, followed by Ernestina Waugh with 12 points.
In the boys semifinal bracket Thursday night, Cleveland Central (9-2) fought off a tough West Bolivar team with a 54-41 victory, while JFK won a barnburner with Ray Brooks 38-33.
Peyton Taylor led the Wolves with 14 points, followed by Kamarion Williams and Quintiyus Causey with 13 points and Leroy Cotton III with nine points.
OJ Rice and Jacorian Tolivar led the Eagles with 11 points each.
Kenyian Kimble led the Hornets with 14 points, followed by Cedric Gardner with seven points.
Anthony Cockream led the Tigers with 11 points, followed Jervais Beans with eight points.
In Wednesday’s action, West Bolivar defeated Ray Brooks (1-8) 57-35 and Shaw edged out JFK (4-9) 50-48 in the girls bracket, while West Bolivar slid by Broad Street 36-34 and JFK edged out Shaw (2-7) 62-58 in the boys bracket.
In the consolation games on Saturday, Shaw (3-7) will play West Bolivar (7-8) in the girls tournament at 3 p.m., and West Bolivar (7-8) will battle Ray Brooks (5-4) in the boys tournament.
